About Us

The idea of Alternative Project was started a decade ago. After Yoshiko Tokuzumi joined 11 NGOs' programs in Asia and Africa during university days she found her passion to create more opportunity for youth to see the totally different world and raise compassion towards people and nature even in the other side of the earth. So that, in a long run, people shift the way of businesses and life to be more responsible.

In 2011, Yoshiko met Ani Himawati in Jakarta, the current advisor of Alternative Project during survey of how to start Alternative Project. In 2013, we created the very first program in Yogyakarta from scratch. Also Haruka Toyonaga who Yoshiko met during the NGO project became partner in Alternative Project. In 2014, we started partnership with Nippon Foundation Students Volunteer Center, Gakuvo, and we have been holding 12 programs together until now! In 2016,We expand our program which focuses more on social entrepreneurship in partnership with Instellar Indonesia in Jakarta. Also, we were the parter of PT.Crownline and WiLLSeed Co., Ltd. for Global Leadership Programs in Jakarta for young professionals from Japan in 2014.

Since 2013, 175 people joined us! 116 from Japan, 58 from Indonesia and one from China! We feel very rich and grateful to be supported and connected with people, partners and friends. We want to be a catalyst for positive change, and since our beginnings in 2013, we’ve been driven by the same ideas we initially founded : We empower youth to maximize potentials & nurture them to be Responsible Leaders.
